Special Lecture by Professor Mohsen Naghavi (University of Washington)

“The Global Burden of Disease: Generating Evidence, Guiding Policy”

On October 28, 2025, the School of International Health, Graduate School of Medicine, The University of Tokyo, in collaboration with the Keio University School of Medicine, hosted a special lecture by Professor Mohsen Naghavi from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME), University of Washington.

Professor Naghavi, a leading scholar of the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) Study, presented the latest findings from GBD 2023, released on October 12, 2025, and discussed their implications for global and national health policy.

The GBD Study is the world’s largest international collaborative research effort, involving over 17,000 researchers from 167 countries and territories, aiming to comprehensively assess the health impacts of diseases and injuries.

The lecture provided an excellent opportunity for students, faculty, and researchers to learn about the latest evidence and its role in guiding data-driven public health policy.
