The impetus for a future in health :Jinghua Li
Future plans: Jinghua is starting a PhD in the School of Public Health and Primary Care at the Chinese University of Hong Kong from September, 2012.
1. How has this course helped with your future career?
Before I came to GHP, I was a completely blank slate with no prior knowledge or experience of health. The course helped me to understand public health and health policy, and more importantly, the research experience helped to prepare for my future research career.
2. Why did you move into health?
My previous education was in engineering. I moved into health because it’s a big issue in China, especially with universal care becoming less accessible. Health is a global issue and a political issue, and I wanted to understand these aspects of the topic.
3. Was it challenging and why?
Yes! Health was a new area for me, and I needed to put a lot of time into the courses to understand the field. The lectures were very helpful because the class really emphasizes the importance of readings, and the professors really drove me to learn more.
4. Why did you come to study in Japan?
Japan is an easier destination for overseas study than America or Europe, and the department had a lot of appeal.
5. Did you enjoy studying in Japan?
I loved it! I was very comfortable in Japan, and really enjoyed the lifestyle of an overseas student here.
